OUR VINEYARDS
with FERNANDO VERA
The story of Coen Estates starts in the Mendoza province in Argentina, in a pristine environment 3,000 feet above sea level, an area with the perfect climate for cultivating grapes used for wine production – cold winters and hot summers (an average temperature of 80 degrees F in summer), watered by plenty of rain and fed by a 1300 feet underground water supply that originates in the nearby snow-covered Andes Mountains. It is a clean, secluded area that has no developed industry to cause environmental contamination – the ideal location for producing world-class grapes.
There are two beautiful certified organic vineyards located in an area of the province called Tupungato named Finca Poloc (around 30 years old) and Finca la Victoria (around 10 years old), each around 20 hectares in size. Coen Vineyards is managed by 40+ years experienced vineyard owner Fernando Vera and his family, who have owned the property for generations.

Hans Chang, the owner of Houston-based Forever Blossom, first came to Mendoza Province a few years ago, and he was immediately impressed by its natural beauty, and the quality of the grapes from the two vineyards. It was a smart decision to team up with Vera,
a man who takes great pride in the quality of his grapes.
For the best Malbec varietals Fernando left nothing to chance – he constantly tested the soil and water quality to make sure it was pure and clean, and taste-tested the grapes from different sections of the vineyards all throughout the growing process. Every harvest, Vera and his team hand-pick the grapes in order to avoid causing damage to the grapes, which prematurely starts the fermentation before they arrive at the winery for production.
A true passion project for Chang and Vera, Coen Reserve wines are a product of the vine growers’ expertise, hardwork and commitment to producing world class, high-quality grapes.

Fernando Vera Jr. graduated as a doctor in 2007. The following year he began his medical residency in gynecology and obstetrics, ending it as an intern at the Saint Barnanbas hospital in New York city in 2012. Then Vera Jr. returned to Argentina to open a private clinic in 2013 which he manages until now. His passion for vineyards and wines were always with him, he is the son of wine-growing parents and he lives in the land of Malbec. This made winemaking become something as important as the passion and vocation for medicine for Vera Jr. Now he takes care of the process to create wines with the precision and delicacy like a surgeon of 15 years of experience. He states it as "the emotion and responsibility of bringing lives to the world.”
